Expanding Model Aquatic Health Standards in the Northern Mariana Islands

For two full days, the team met with environmental health professionals, hotel pool operators, maintenance teams, swim coaches, emergency management personnel, and health inspectors to explore how the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) can enhance public health and safety. The group covered critical topics such as recreational water illness prevention, pool operations, chemical controllers, and pump maintenance—all within the guidance of the MAHC.
Beyond the training sessions, Kristie was deeply impressed by the warmth and hospitality of everyone involved. The dedication of CNMI’s public health and aquatic professionals was truly inspiring, and the island itself—with its breathtaking beaches, vibrant culture, and incredible food—made a lasting impression.
Momentum for MAHC adoption continues to grow—from Colombia to Guam and beyond, more communities are recognizing the value of standardized, science-backed aquatic health codes. Christopher, Kelsey, and Kristie look forward to returning to CNMI to support its ongoing efforts and continue advancing safe and healthy aquatic facilities worldwide.
