Voting & Weighting

Voting

Only CMAHC members are allowed to vote on submitted Change Requests (CRs).  To vote, members should click the CR’s link, read the full CR and supporting information, then cast their vote. Voting options are found at the bottom of the submitted CR with options to “Adopt” or “Do Not Adopt.”

Voting is open for 30 days. Members have until the 30-day voting window closes to finalize their vote. No votes can be changed after the voting window closes.

Voters are encouraged to additionally review the relevant TRC and TSC submissions prior to casting their vote.

Weighing

Voting has two categories:
  1. Aquatics Industry Voters
  2. Public Health Voters

As the MAHC is a model code intended primarily for use by public health officials, weighing is favored toward the Public Health sector. Public Health votes are weighed in a 2:1 ratio when compared to Aquatics Industry votes. This is expressed in the vote totals with each public health vote being counted as 1 vote, and each Aquatics Sector vote being counted as 0.5 vote.

CMAHC Member Voting

CMAHC member voting is weighted according to sector to ensure that the public health benefits of a change are paramount when deciding on a change to the MAHC. The weighting will ensure that the public health sector, which will always be smaller than the aquatics sector, is not overwhelmed by the greater number of aquatics sector members. NOTE: The aquatics sector voting was originally subdivided and weighted by manufacturer (10%), designer/builder (20%), and operator (20%). Based on member feedback, the CMAHC Board of Directors eliminated the weighting within the aquatics sector in November 2016 so the weighting was simplified. Based on member feedback, the CMAHC Board decided that a “Pass” vote should receive over 60% of the vote (implemented in 2020). This change was intended to reduce the controversy created by CRs receiving only 50-59.9% of the vote and requires the submitter and CMAHC membership to take additional time to discuss the CR and potentially gather more data and analyses to support the CR being re-submitted.
