Aliyah’s Story: A Preventable Tragedy That Drives Our Mission
Eight-year-old Aliyah Lynette Jaico loved the water. She loved to play, splash, and swim. But one day, what should have been a day of joy turned into a preventable tragedy. Aliyah’s life was cut short because of gaps in safety practices that could have been addressed with better standards and education.

Aliyah’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of why the work of the Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC) is so critical. It is why we strive every day to ensure that no child—or family—experiences a loss that could have been prevented.

The MAHC: A Free Code Saving Lives
The Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) is a science-based, freely available standard designed to make swimming safer for everyone. From the YMCA to the Department of Defense, from National Parks to community pools, this code is leveraged by organizations across the country—and internationally—to protect swimmers and save lives.

But there is still work to do. Aliyah’s tragedy underscores that not every pool, waterpark, or aquatic facility has access to or implements the best practices outlined in the MAHC.

A Small Contribution, A Big Impact
This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking for your help to expand the reach of the MAHC and deepen our life-saving work. For just $0.60 per public pool—less than the cost of a soda—we can fund vital research, strengthen aquatic safety standards, and help facilities across the country adopt proven best practices.

Your contribution helps ensure that every swim is safe. Together, we can prevent tragedies like Aliyah’s by supporting the education, training, and research that make safer pools a reality.

Your Opportunity to Make a Difference
Every dollar makes an impact. Whether it’s $5, $20, or $100, your generosity helps CMAHC save lives by providing essential resources to aquatic facilities, authorities, and organizations.

When you give to CMAHC, you’re joining a movement that prioritizes safety, embraces innovation, and makes an undeniable difference in the lives of families everywhere.

This Giving Tuesday, honor Aliyah’s memory by helping CMAHC create a world without preventable tragedies.

Donate now and make an incredible difference—one safe swim at a time.
